Seasonal Pest Control
The problems Wildlife Control experiences with
specific
pests are often seasonal. There are particular pest-related issues that
accompany each of the four seasons.

- Ants can be found both
inside and outside of the home. During the springtime, ants will
forage, seeking food and nesting. Ants may be coming from an outside
nest or may have already established a colony inside the home. They
will often create tunnels in wood, causing potentially serious
structural damage if left untreated.
- Bees produce the honey
that we all know and love and are essential for the pollination of
flowers and trees. However, bees can become a problem during the
summer, when they establish new hives inside the wall cavity of homes
and businesses. Bees can be potentially dangerous, particularly in
swarms, as they carry highly toxic venom which can cause swelling of
the skin when they sting. In some cases, death may even arise to people
who are allergic to the bee venom or who are bitten by the swarm of
bees in large numbers.
- Crickets are nocturnal
creatures and are very active at night. They typically enter homes or
buildings through open doors during a wet, warm season or when the
weather turns cool in the fall. Crickets are often considered pests as
they can destroy household items, such as wallpaper. In addition to the
damage crickets are capable of, they also are noisy creatures, which
can cause annoyance and irritation for humans.
- Earwigs, like crickets,
are nocturnal pests. They can be found hiding in small crevices during
the day and are active at night, feeding on a variety of plants and
insects. Earwigs are often considered pests due to the damage they can
do to foliage, flowers, and crops.
- Fleas are parasites that
feed on the blood of warm blooded animals, including humans and
household pets such as cats and dogs. Fleas are commonly regarded as
pests as their bites can cause acute irritation, infection and transfer
of other parasites, such as, tapeworms. Fleas become very active in the
summer months and often enter a home or building on cats and dogs and
are commonly deposited in carpeted areas, in the garden, or the lawn.
- Lady Beetles, or
Ladybugs, are often times beneficial insects in that all active stages
are predators of garden pests like aphids and spider mites. The problem
happens when adult beetles try to enter our homes in the fall with the
purpose of sheltering there until spring. This can cause a nuisance and
disruption for any household or office.
- Rodents, commonly found
in the form of rats and mice, eat a wide range of plant material well
as invertebrates. Rodents are typically seen as pests inside and
outside of the home as they can damage agricultural crops and eat or
contaminate food storage. For centuries, these pests have been
responsible for transmitting various diseases to humans.
- Spiders can be
found in basements, garages and porches among other areas. Spiders come
out to find
food and feed on other pests. Spider infestations are usually the
result of other insects being present around your home. Although they
can be beneficial predatory creatures, spiders are viewed as pests due
to their scary physical appearance, the spider silk (webs) they
produce, and the potential danger that some species present.
- Termites, like many other
pests, can be beneficial in nature. Termites have the ability to break
down dead trees and other wood materials. Termites become pests when
they attack the wooden elements of human structures -- homes,
businesses and warehouses. Termite damage can cost hundreds, if not
thousands, of dollars’ worth of damage. Their presence is often
difficult to detect as they hide their activity behind wallboards,
siding or wood trim.
- Wasps come in many types
and sizes. Common types of wasps include yellow jackets and hornets.
Wasps can be beneficial insects, as they are natural scavengers, and
prey on other insects such as flies and caterpillars. However, wasps
are typically considered pests due to their ability to sting and cause
harm to humans. Wasps are attracted to moisture and sweet odors such as
sweat, perfume, food, and flowers. Wasps nests are usually small in
size and are typically located anyplace that provides some type of
shelter from the elements, including cracks, eaves, window shutters,
siding, or soffits.
